Good morning little doll,

What a shock we received! You’re back in Rotterdam now where you were born. After opa and I held you we know for sure that you’ll keep fighting to stay with us, you’re such a great little boy.

The doctors keep testing you until they know what is happening to you, so they can make you get better. What has to happen, has to happen, but you are definitely staying with us, that we know for sure. We can’t do anything to help at this moment but we think about the 3 of you all day and we continue to light candles in the hope that it might speed things up a little. Your papa and mama are there for you all day and we’ll come visit again this weekend. We’ll take tante Tini along as well so she can cuddle you again.

My love, get lots of rest and eat well so that you’ll grow strong and tall and you’ll be able to laugh about all this with us later. That’s what I dream about already.

By love, see you next weekend!

Big hug and lots of kisses from opa and oma from Susteren.

Dearest Sebastian,

It’s been a week since I last wrote in your diary. A lot has happened in that time. For a while now you’re looking a bit yellow, and the doctors started to worry a bit. They did all kinds of blood tests to find out what could be causing this. In one of these tests they also found that have very young white blood cells in your blood. These are supposed to reside in your bone marrow.

They immediately started testing for viruses and bacteria in your little body. Turns out you have a bacteria in your stool that is very contagious for other kids so the nurses are now wearing gloves and an apron when they’re changing you. Luckily this is nothing dangerous and the bacteria will disappear on its own again.

Tuesday afternoon, mama and I had a meeting with your doctor and she told us that she does not know where your symptoms originate from. She thought it best to move you to the Sophia academic hospital in Rotterdam. On thursday morning you were moved by ambulance from Delft to Rotterdam. Mama got to travel along with you. You are now lying in a very modern ward, in a very cosy little bed. They have already taken your blood twice today and the doctors are discussing which tests to perform on you. We’ve already had a talk with your new doctor and she explained to us very clearly which tests they are going to perform on you. The first thing they want to exclude is the notion that your symptoms could be a result of leukemia.

When mama and I heard that term we both got really scared. How much bad luck can a fantastic little guy like you possibly have? I totally don’t believe it. I prefer to think you have caught some strange virus that can be cured with some medicine. We’ll try to stay as calm as possible for now, as far as that is feasible in this situation. It is just so difficult to imagine that something really serious could be causing this, because you’re looking so good. You’ve been growing very well. Today you weight 1965 grams. Yes, you heard right! In a few days we can have a little party cause you’ll be passing the 2 kg mark.

Last week in Delft you also had a problem with pooping. You received a so-called “chimney” for a few days. The nurse would stick a little tube in your anus to relieve the air from your intestines. That problem seems to have disappeared now completely. You already pooped 4 times today before we visited you this evening. While changing you, you’ve managed to poop twice on papas hand. You’re such a yummy dirty little man.

Now I’m going to hold you close to me for a while so the rest of the story will have to wait for a while.

Lots of love and kisses and hugs and …

Papa

Hello Sweetheart,

Yesterday something wonderful happened to me. Papa, opa, tante Tini and I arrived at the hospital when your mama handed you to me and I got to hold you for the very first time. I did not see you for the first ten minutes, due to the tears running down my cheeks (from happiness only!)

It was so wonderful, I also got to feed you a bottle. I was so happy, it’s been a long time since I beamed like that.

Opa and tante Tini were smelling you the whole time as you smelled delicious after your very first bath. You are becoming such a lovely little boy. Next week opa gets to hold you, I think he was a little bit jealous, but he got over that pretty quickly. Tante Tini will get her turn as well, you see we’re already fighting over who gets to hold you, but I will never forget this first time!!!

Keep on growing my life so that you can go home soon. That way we can all cuddle you as much as we want. We’ll come and see you again on Sunday and until then I’ll admire you on the computer.

Bey, our sweet little man and till Sunday.

Big hug and kisses from oma and opa from Susteren.

Hi Love,

It’s been a little while since …

Woops, I was clearly interrupted. It’s now two days later and you’re sleeping peacefully. You underwent lots of examinations today. You still have jaundice pretty badly. You …

Alright, interrupted again. Last night you emptied a whole bottle (35ml). And today you’ll be taking a bath for the very first time. Wow, you havent had a bath for more than two months, you dirty stinker! I’m off to take granny Leslie to the airport, so I’ll see you again in an hour or 4.

Kisses,

Papa

Well dirty little man,

Today you got your very first bath and guess what? You absolutely loved it. At first you got a little worried, but after a few seconds you decided that it was the best thing since sliced bread. Your Mama and I were loving every minute of watching you. The male nurse showed us exactly how to do it so next time we can wash you completely by ourselves.

Klein vies mannetje,
